Describe what you think a typical work day is like at this site.
NOVO engineering does contract work, so I suppose they will call their partners alot to make sure they are engineering what they need. Other than that, it probably looks a lot like how therobotics team looks with a few people doing CAD and designing and everyone else making prototypes or working on the final product.
What do you think the business's general work policies are (tardiness, absence, etc.)?
I don’t really have any idea, but I suppose that thereis some form of punnishment for not going to work without using a sick day, most likely if you do it too much they would fire you. There probably isn’t any real punishment for being late to a meeting, as long as you dont do it excessivley.
Describe what you think the dress code will be like at this site.
Most of the employees are engineers, so everyone is probably required to wear pants and closed shoes for saftey. Your probably expected to wear a decent shirt like a polo, but nothing fancy. There will probably be quite a few people just wearing T-shirts, unless they are doing a meeting with clients in which case there will be more formal attire.
In what ways do you expect your high school classes and the skills you have learned to apply to this profession?
Class
Skill
Application
Math
Math
From the engeneering I have done in robotics, I know that math is a huge part of mechanical engineering. It is what you use to figure out every important design dessision.
Physics
Physics
Mechanical Engineering doesn’t utalise as much physics as something like areospace engineering, but it still is very important. Most of the complex math you do is to figure out something reguarding physics
Humanities
Public Speaking
If you want to properly articulate your idea to your client you need to be good at speaking to people. Writing essays doing pressentations in class help with that.
Engineering
Engineering
Building a soapbox car is basicly all mechanical engineering, which is exactly what they do at NOVO, so I expect everyting I learn in that class will have some form of application.
Art
Creativity
Before you start defining the details of a design, you need to have a good general Idea first. I am pretty ure art expands the part of your brain the creates original Ideas, so that would be useful.
Please write a reflection which describes what you are expecting for Career Day. What kind of tasks or activities do you expect to see people doing? In other words, what do you expect the professional world to be like?
I expect that I will se people doing some form of CAD in cubicles or around a big table. There will be a few people creating prototypes of current projects or just to test a machines capability. Somewere in the building I am in there will be people doing paperwork, but I most likely will not run into them because I am shadowing an engineer. There will be afew meeting that are going on where people discus Ideas or try to get the go-ahead with clients to build something.
